2019 General Election Report - INEC
Nigeria; the most populous black nation on earth had it’s General Election in 2019. The build-up to the polls were met by intense anticipation by it’s citizens. Candidates from the most populous parties were locked in fierce contest to become the baton carrier of the nation. It was an important period in the history of the country.
The incumbent President, Muhamadu Buhari had spent the first term as the President of the federation and he was hopeful of returning for a second term, his fiercest competitor, Atiku Abubakar was counting on winning the votes of the citizens against the current President of the Federation.
In the end, President Muhamadu Buhari won his second term in an election that many believed was controversial.
In 2020, The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) decided to produce a 300+ page report that detailed the analysis of each Zone, State and Local Government level to shed light on intricate workings of the planning, organization and delivery of the General Elections.
With this cumbersome task comes great challenge and ultimately fun to iterate create and iterate again until the final output was delivered. We were tasked with not only the creative aspect but also with the organization of inputs coming from different INEC officiating sources as we work along.
Challenges
The creative process was daunting due to the fact that contents were coming in bits and pieces because they were being sent from all corners of the country, at Local and State levels.
No prior brief was given to give an insight to how many pages the document will turnout to be. We were designing as we go. This created a bit of uncertainty in our holistic design layout of the report.
Duration
The Report took exactly four months to produce and submit the first draft, and another 5 months to effect corrections and inputs from different stakeholders that participated in the reporting process.
